Our Story…..
Mysticgold Kennel was registered with the Canadian Kennel Club in 1989 and is owned and operated by Kelly Greir. It is located on 2 beautiful, wooded acres just outside the quaint town of Chemainus on Vancouver Island, BC in Canada since May, 2004. However, it started many years ago in Shawnigan Lake, BC when my husband Mark and I purchased our first purebred, registered dog (a golden retriever) in December 1985. That marked the beginning of a long and rewarding journey in the world of purebred dogs. From 1985 until 2001 I raised, trained, showed and bred golden retrievers ~ averaging one litter per year. I produced a number of dogs who went on to gain show championships and obedience titles.
After 14 years of involvement with golden retrievers I decided in early in 1999 to “downsize” to a smaller breed and set out to locate and purchase a female west highland white terrier I could breed and show. “Rosie” (Moonstone’s Butterfly Kisses) arrived from Fort Worth, Texas on September 24th, 1999. She turned out to be a typical, bright, cheerful little westie and endeared me forever to the breed. She is in most of the pedigrees of the westie puppies that have been produced here. Below is a picture of me with a litter of 7 female puppies taken in July, 2008 ~ these puppies are “Rosie’s” great grand-daughters.

Although I thoroughly love and enjoy the westies I decided it might be fun and challenging to add another breed of terrier to my kennel. So late in 2006 I set out to locate a female border terrier puppy from a reputable breeder. Over the past 20 years I had encountered many of them at dog shows and was always attracted to their outgoing, friendly personalities and energy. They appeared to be cheerful, active terriers that were good with both people and dogs.

It is only because of the help and support of my best friend and husband of 26 years that Mysticgold Kennel continues to exist. Mark has built great facilities for the my dogs, looked after them when I have gone away, accepted the fact that we can rarely ever get away together on a holiday, and put up with my sleep deprivation at the time of whelping puppies ~ he is a truly a wonderful husband and I could not do this without him!
Although our two oldest sons, Ryan (22) and Tyler (20), have left home to pursue careers I still have our two younger sons Jesse (7) and Josh (6) at home to help me. They love to socialize the puppies and can often be found playing with them and gently cuddling them. It is a great joy to watch the amazing interaction between children and puppies ~ I never get tired of it!
