Border Terriers were developed in the border area between Scotland and England. They were used by the farmers for bolting foxes out of their holes. They were known for their vitality and ability to keep pace with a horse. They needed to be self-determined, agile, and have a lot of stamina. Border terrier coats come in a variety of colors including red, wheaten, grizzle and blue and tan. They have a double coat that consists of a wiry outer coat and soft undercoat. This double coat is designed to keep them warm in the most inclement of Northern climates. Overall they do not require a lot of grooming but can benefit from a weekly brushing and occasional stripping of the wiry outer coat. It is not that difficult to learn to do. There are many good books on the market and numerous sites on the Internet with explanations and pictures on how to strip a terrier. They have a very unique and distinctive head that resembles that of an otter. An average adult weighs between 12 – 17 pounds and is 12” at the shoulders Border Terriers are very friendly, outgoing little dogs. When they are on the ground they are busy and active but once picked up they love to cuddle and give “kisses”. They are generally very good with both people and other dogs. If they receive proper training and are well socialized from young they make great companions. Like most of the small terriers they do have a very strong prey drive so it is best if they are always walked on a leash or exercised in a safe, fully secure area. They do well in both the city and country. A daily walk and regular stimulating activity will help keep them in top form physically and mentally. Although border terriers are great little dogs they are not for everyone. I would highly recommend that any one considering getting one research the breed extensively and be sure it is the right dog for your family. It is important to be sure they are the right size and temperament and will fit in to your lifestyle. A dog is a very big investment and commitment so you want to be sure that you get the breed that will best suit your family. The price for a quality, CKC Registered, border terrier puppy form a reputable breeder in Canada ranges from $ 1000 - $1500. You can get more information and pictures of the breed at: http://www.borderterriercanada.ca/ or http://www.btcoa.org/index.shtml

The beginning……….
In May, 2007 I purchased my first female border terrier puppy, “Dolly” (Can. Ch Wimberway’s Border Destiny). Over the past 20 years I had encountered many border terriers at dog shows and liked their friendly, outgoing personalities and energy. After getting to know “Dolly” and determining that I really liked the breed I decided it was time to get her a few companions. With the help of fellow westie breeder Katharina Round of Champernoune Kennels in France I was able to locate and import two border terriers from Mr. Gilbert Hue of Bois Des Ifs Kennel. “Fizz” (Champagne Fizz Du Bois Des Ifs) arrived in December, 2007. “Billy” (Billy the Kid Du Bois Des Ifs) followed a year later. They are both beautiful, healthy border terriers with stunning heads and great personalities. I thank Gilbert for entrusting me with these two amazing dogs.

My border terriers today………. My first litter of border terrier puppies is due early in the fall of 2009. The primary focus of my breeding program is to produce healthy, happy border terriers that meet the breed standard and have great temperaments. And because I like a terrier with a really nice head I will make every effort to produce puppies that will grow in to adults with the “classic” otter-head and expression that sets the breed apart. If you think you may be interested in one of my puppies please read the information provided on my Information page and contact me via email.

Can Ch, Wimberway’s Border Destiny *Dolly*
|
|
|
|
“Dolly” was born in March, 2007 at Wimberway Kennel in North Bay, Ontario. Her breeder is Sandy Briggs. She is a gamey, high energy girl who loves to be part of the action. She was show locally on a very limited basis obtaining three BOB on her way to finishing her Can, Championship in June 2009. I groomed her and handled her to all of her wins. She has beautiful movement, great front and rear angulation and a nice hard coat. I have taken her to two sets of agility classes which she really enjoyed and excelled at. “Dolly” loves other dogs and when they first meet her sole aim is to give them a complete “face wash” in record time . She has an OVC hip clearance and an eye clearance (CERF), patella’s normal.

Champagne Fizz Du Bois Des Ifs *Fizz*

“Fizz” was born in France on October 1, 2007. She arrived here late in December ~ as a nine week old puppy. Her breeder is Mr. Gilbert Hue. She is out of top, champion show lines going back to some of the most well-known border terrier kennels in the UK and Europe. She is my “social butterfly” as she loves everyone ~ especially children. She is sweet, cuddly and affectionate with a really nice head and expression. She has been shown a little and although she didn’t like it at first she is finally starting to relax in the show ring. I hope to get her out to some more shows in 2010. She has a heart clearance from a board certified cardiologist, patella’s normal, eye clearance (CERF).

Mysticgold’s Border Karma *Karma*
Karma is our first home-bred border terrier puppy to stay and become part of the pack. Her dam is Dolly (CH Wimberway’s Border Destiny) and she was sired by Billy (Billy the Kid Du Bois Des Ifs). The litter, which consisted of four puppies, was born in June, 2010. Karma is a very spunky, cute little border and like most border terriers she LOVES food. She weighs around 13 lbs, has a beautiful, hard red grizzle coat, and great front and rear angulation. In one of the pictures she is pictured with our 7 year old son Josh and one of her litter mates, now called Bonni (Mysticgold’s Border Pebbles), who went on to join her forever family in Vancouver at around 4 months of age. We look forward to watching Karma grow and mature in to a beautiful adult.

We want to thank his breeder Debby Pomeroy of Otley Border Terriers, Chino Valley, Arizona for entrusting us with this lovely blue and tan boy…… His sire is AM CH Otleys Desirable and his dam is Otleys As It Were. He is line bred on the beautiful English bred dog AM CAN ENG CH Conundrum Co-Writer and lovely Canadian bred bitch AM CAN CH Roschel’s Firefly. Blue was shown as a puppy in the spring and summer of 2011 and has obtained 6 points toward his Canadian Championship. He has beautiful angulation, a nice hard coat, perfect scissor bite, and moves with lots of reach and drive. He is a sensitive, easy going dog who loves everyone he meets. He has a CERF eye clearance, preliminary hip x-rays, patella and heart checks. He is my 9 year old son Jesse’s best buddy and competes with him in Junior Handling competitions at many of the local dog shows. They make a great team!
